Monica & David and Me & You
My very fabulous friend, Jonathan H., connected me with one of his very fabulous New York friends, Beckett H., friends who is making her way to DC for one of my MOST FAVORITE DCish activities: Silverdocs. In case you don't know the glory that is Silverdocs, here is a little overview...
Silverdocs is a seven day internationally renowned film festival that celebrates independent thinking and generates global media attention. Silverdocs supports the diverse voices and free expression of independent storytellers and fosters the power of documentary to enhance our understanding of the world. Anchored in the National Capital Region, where important global and national issues are the daily business, Silverdocs is marked by its relevance, broad intellectual range, and wide public appeal. Silverdocs was created through a unique alliance between AFI and the Discovery Channel, the festival’s Founding Sponsor.
You see, Beckett H. is the "Co-Director of Community Engagement" for a film called Monica and David. (By the way, how amazing does that job sound? She gets to publicize what sounds like a really lovely documentary and reach out to people like ME and offer us tickets in exchange for a little bloggy PR.) Well, I can be bought and free tickets to one of my most favorite documentary film festivals is a surefire way to do so.
So, this is the deal: I have TWO free passes to the Saturday (June 26 at 11:30 AM) screening of Monica and David and one of them is up for grabs for YOU. Just make a note in the comments section of this post and I will decide if you are worthy (worthy=best haiku about why I should choose you or most delicious post film lunch destination suggestion). Make sure you identify yourself as you leave your comment so when I decide you're the winner I know how to get in touch with you!
And in case you don't win the first ever free-stuff-Silverdocs-ticket-W and CP-drawing, you should join us anyway! Tickets are available for purchase here and cost a mere $10! More information about Monica & David can be found on the film's website and in this adorable little flyer that Beckett shared with me.
See you at Silverdocs,
Wild and Crazy Pearl

Oh, what a great giveaway!
Movies alone? Great.
DC docs free with a friend?
Way better. Huzzah!
Doh. Mike and I have a wedding to attend in Gettysburg that evening, so we're headed out early - otherwise I'd totally be there!
(My cousin, closest in age to me, has Downs and I am his biggest fan. I would love to see this movie at some point!)
So excited that I was able to be a conduit in connecting WC&P to this film!
While I don't have a poem, I would suggest Carol B.H.'s house in Silver Spring for a most delicious post-film lunch. I hear she is making blueberry pie.
Come out and support Monica & David!
Okay, okay, I'm not just a fan - I'm also a friend of the director and so excited for her!
The film won best Best Documentary Feature at Tribeca! You can read more about the film at http://www.monicaanddavid.com/.
Sometimes I think knowing Emily is like knowing a local celebrity... The film sounds great, and Silverdocs is totally on my DC to-do list. So even if I don't win (because I'm haiku-challenged), I may just try to get myself there on Saturday anyway. Your love for DC and everything it has to offer is contagious, and we are so lucky to live here. Thanks for always reminding me of that!
Can't wait to spend some QT with you Ms. Goodstein. You, me & Silverdocs!
...and maybe a fun food adventure to follow. The fractured prune? a nice jewish deli somewhere? who knows what fun we'll find!
This is my first post!
Love to see you again, Em
Cure for rough two weeks
Oh, just learned family friends will be in town for the weekend, so count me out of the running - but HAVE FUN at Silverdocs!
