Two Famous Friends
I am always proud of my friends and their fabulous accomplishments...alas today I am writing to brag about two friends in particular:
My colleague, Rev. Steven Baines, was featured in today's New York Times in an article about his recent engagement to his partner, Rick. I am just so excited about Steven's upcoming wedding and his brush with fame in the New York Times. I am still trying to confirm my place as guest photographer at the wedding, but if I can snag an invite to this A list wedding, I will post photos from the big day in a few months.
I also just found out that my friend, Miriam Perez, was awarded the Women's Information Network (WIN) Young Women of Achievement Award. Congratulations Miriam! I am thrilled to see that the award was given to a truly young woman of achievement and Miriam's powerful writings on radicaldoula.com are getting the attention they deserve.
A quick note about the Women's Information Network--I find that I am recommending someone join the WIN list at least once a day. For those of you still wondering what it is, here is a little description:
WIN is Washington’s premier professional, political, and social network dedicated to empowering young, Democratic, pro-choice women. Founded in 1989 on the idea that women can help women climb the ladder of success, WIN is now over 1,000 members strong and growing.See you on the WIN list!
WIN is a volunteer-run 501(c)4 nonprofit organization. WINners are politically engaged women who work everywhere in DC – Capitol Hill, nonprofit organizations, labor unions, political fundraising and consulting firms, policy think tanks, and more. WIN’s Advisory Council includes over 60 prominent women in Washington who are dedicated to guiding and helping the next generation of Democratic, pro-choice women succeed.
WIN provides women with access to job and networking opportunities not available anywhere else in Washington. WIN women meet for networking events, resume swaps, happy hours, and panel discussions—all geared towards mentoringand helping women along the road to success. WIN women also volunteer on political campaigns, at nonprofit organizations, and on various event committees through WIN.

Em, do you know if there is a WIN equivalent in New York? I am on a similarly supportive and awesome "women in politics and tech" email listserv, but would love to check out a similar network that blends in face to face gatherings in NYC.
I didn't realize Steve Baines was getting married. Awesome! And to be featured in NYT... even more awesome! Thanks for this link. :)
